Lose Weight Program

September 4th, 2008 by admin

Repeat after me “Oh Great Slimming Fairy, please grant me the body of my dreams and banish this unwanted fat from existence!” How’d you go? Did it work? No? Ok, now you didn’t really try hard enough did you? Say it again, with feeling this time! Any luck? Oh all right I’m just being silly, we all know you simply can’t wish away those unwanted pounds. But a lot of the lose weight programs available seem to think they can suck you in with promises of unrealistic weight loss expectations. So let’s have a look at how you can find the right lose weight program just for you.

What are your circumstances? Are you very overweight or just looking to trim up a bit? The reason I ask is because if you really are very overweight then I strongly suggest you look at a clinical program, one that is well supervised by a licensed doctor or nurse. A program like this can be found at some hospitals, but it may just be best to ask your doctor for his or her opinion on which program you need to be on. You should expect some medical care as well as lessons on eating and exercising correctly.

Now if you’re thinking that’s not me, you have a few other options. You could join a nonclinical program. An example of which is Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers. What you need to be fully aware of is some of these programs require you to purchase their slimming products, such as nutritional supplements, or diet shakes. This is where it can get rather expensive. On the plus side if you feel you need personal contact with a weight loss specialist you will find these services valuable.

The other way to ensure you lose weight is by having an excellent support group that will help to motivate you. OK we’ve got our friends and family for that, but sometimes even that isn’t quite enough. So don’t underestimate the power behind say, a weekly TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) meeting. No set plans are provided but you will get some education and make new friends.

Then there are the online programs, these programs are available to purchase usually at a once only fee. These can be pretty good for the average person who simply wants to follow a good diet and get results. For those of you who have time restrictions and can’t get to weekly meetings then this is the perfect solution. The best feature of an online lose weight program is that they often come with a sixty day money back guarantee. How many other diet books, classes, or programs will offer you that?

It is absolutely frightening that in America today over 65% of the population is overweight. It is well past time that our community starts doing something about our health. You wouldn’t be reading this if you weren’t ready to work towards a healthier you. So I congratulate you for making it this far. Now go that one step further, dive in and start that lose weight program that’s best for you today.

Quick Lose Weight Tip #1

September 20th, 2008 by admin

If you’ve decided to do a low calorie diet, hmm actually if your’re doing any sort of diet I highly recommend that you also take  supplements. You just can’t be to sure if your getting the right amount of nutrients in your food. The problem is that if you’re not getting them then not only will your weight loss start to slow down, you may find yourself fatigued and even depressed.

As an example: Vitamin b6 is important in the metabolism of amino acids and vitamin C as well as it’s cold fighting properties is needed to build collagen. Consider also taking Evening Primrose Oil. The fatty acids in this oil manufactures prostaglandin which actually assists the body to shed excess weight. As a bonus this oil is great for the skin and is widely used to help eczema sufferers.

So hop into your local chemist and grab a good quality muli-vitamin and some Evening Primrose Oil and some Fish Oil for your Omega 3 and you’re body will have all it needs to get you through the day

Weight Loss Surgery Isn’t A Quick Fix.

September 17th, 2008 by admin

Did you know that around 15 million Americans are morbidly obese? That is an incredible number of people who are suffering from all sorts of health complications. The last resort for many who can afford it is weight reduction surgery. This is by no means a simple procedure, it is real surgery with real risks and anyone contemplating it must speak in detail with their doctor.

The surgery reduces the size of the stomach considerably and often reduces part of the small intestine as well. This means you must eat small meals and many patients can no longer eat fatty fried foods. Weight loss can be very significant with losses of over 100 pounds in a year. But the long term success of this drastic procedure lies solely with the patient. If they follow their aftercare program strictly, then they should do quite well. Otherwise some of the lost weight will creep back on.

Maintaining weight after lap-band surgery isn’t easy. It will always be a bit of a struggle and effort so I think big congratulations should go out to anyone who has been through this and has reinvented themselves. You are all true winners. Sara Sloan is one such person and you can read about her efforts here…

Change Your Habits!

September 16th, 2008 by admin

I was just giving some advice yesterday that I thought was important enough to share. This really nice young lady was describing herself as the typical yo-yo dieter. She had no problems (Ok not many) in following a diet or weight loss program. She was able to reach her desired weight. BUT then… she’d slowly start to put all that weight lost back on. It’s a familiar story.

So what really is the answer to maintaining weight lost? I’m sure it’s slightly different for different people but in the end it comes down to habits that need to be broken. Here’s an example:

1.    The tired mom who has finally got the kids to sleep and now sits down to her favorite soapy WITH “______insert food here____”.

2.    The busy executive who gets home and the first stop is the fridge for a nibble before dinner.

3.    The teenage student that throws her books and a bag of chips on the bed to study.

Do you see the pattern? No one here is actually eating a meal at a table. Yet they will all consume far too many calories because they are in a habit. It’s what they do; it’s what they’ve done for months perhaps years. This is a program that needs to be deleted, because this is why they can’t lose the weight for good.

The solution is to swap one habit for another where eating isn’t possible. Instead of eating while watching TV, try giving yourself a facial. The type where the mask hardens and you can’t move LOL or start a craft project, knitting squares for instance.  If you are in the habit of cruising the fridge when you get home, change that to go straight for a shower instead.

The student needs to change and find a place to study where food is in appropriate. Study with a friend, study in the library, change the location to a public one and I can pretty much guarantee that you won’t eat that huge packet of chips in front of your friends and family.

The saying “old habits die hard” is true but if you’re serious about keeping those extra pounds off after your weight loss program then you’ll have to change those habits that have you eating for something to do while you’re doing something else.

Lizard Spit Could Help You Lose Weight.

September 13th, 2008 by admin

Well, now I have heard everything! “lizard spit” could help you lose weight. Now you’ve heard everything. What’s it all about? OK there is a drug on the market called Byetta. The active ingredient is none other than the saliva of The Gila Monster. This is a venomous lizard (of which there are only two types in the world) that is found in Southwest USA and Mexico. It has actually been listed by the IUCN as a near threatened species. So, what we are doing messing with it I’d like to know. …Anyway the drug seems to be quite useful to diabetics, helping to control blood sugar. It also seems it could help you to lose weight. Before anyone goes running out to buy it, it does come with warnings about potential pancreas problems. Read on about this here.

How To Stay Focused On Your Lose Weight Program

September 11th, 2008 by admin

Staying focused and seeing some project through to the end has always been a challenge for me. I’m definitely a starter, but when it comes down to it I often get distracted and walk away from any number of half finished projects. But when it came to losing the weight I needed, I got serious and in the end I think I won the battle. So for those of you still putting up the good fight here are a few of the things that helped to keep me focused.

1.    I used a weekly meal planner.
This was fantastic because once my meals were worked out I didn’t ever have that horrible rush to find something to eat when the day went pair shaped. I can guarantee that any other time this happens the meals are never nutritious.

2.    I suddenly had a shift of mindset. I stopped worrying about what I looked like, and started focusing on becoming a healthier person. So instead of thinking when I was eating “Is this going to help me get thinner?” I saw and knew that, eating that apple would help improve my health. This was really quite a big step for me and I’m sure it contributed to helping me achieve my target weight.

3.    I cleaned out the fridge and cupboard before I started my lose weight program. Really I tossed out so much food it was quite embarrassing, not to mention a waste of money. But without those easy snacks at hand, staying good and focused wasn’t too hard. The trick then of course is not to buy anymore of what you just threw out, yes even on a bad day!

4.    I stuck up some notes around the house. I wrote out all sorts of things like. “You’re doing great!” and “Come on another pound off today” “Have you done your exercises yet?” I’d see them all the time and they really made me smile and feel happy within myself.

5.    I have these favorite jeans (which I’m wearing now buy the way) that I displayed in the dining room. Just another reminder to keep my eye on the prize.

So that’s it, so I hope you’ve found something here to help keep you focused on your lose weight program. It really is important to keep encouraging each other to get back to our healthy selves don’t you think. It is my hope that this encourages you to lose some pounds, and then your success encourages someone else to lose weight. Then just perhaps we’ll be able to lower that horrible percentage that states 65% of all Americans are overweight. I have faith, so anyway get writing those notes to post about the house, you’ll do great!

What’s a BMI anyway?

September 9th, 2008 by admin

Who can tell me what BMI stands for? Full marks to those of you who said Body Mass Index. For the rest of you Body Mass Index is a calculated figure from your height and weight that is used as a method of defining obesity. It’s not a perfect calculation but it is accepted across the world as the best calculation for determining the amount of fat present in a body.

The reason you want to know your BMI is so that you have a good understanding of what is normal and where you stand next to that number. The heigher the number the more likely you are to suffer from obesity problems and diseases. There is a good little article on BMI I just found to read it please click here.

Benefits of a fantastic lose weight program

September 7th, 2008 by admin

So you’ve been thinking for a while now that you should lose a little of that extra weight you’ve been carrying around. But it would be interesting to know what that actually means for your health other than simply being able to fit back into your favorite outfit right? Well, so that you’ll have even more interest in that lose weight program your about to start. Let me outline just a few of the fantastic benefits your about to see and experience.

How’s your stamina? No I’m not just talking about in the bedroom. In general, how much energy do you feel you have now? Take time to take a little notice because once you’re eating right and exercising regularly, you’ll find you have so much more energy. Now what will you do with all that energy? You’ll enjoy better mobility as your muscles get put to more work they become more flexible. Your breathing will improve as the exercise you’re doing is also flexing and strengthening your lung and chest muscles. Swimming is one of the best exercises you can do that is guaranteed to improve your breathing.

How would you like to sleep better at night and wake up in the morning ready to tackle the day? Thousands of thousands of people suffer from sleep problems and often simply losing a few pounds can make all the difference. You’ll find your blood sugar levels improve and become more stable, this means a happier you. You’ll notice a change where you’re a lot less stressed, jumpy or cranky. This can also means your blood pressure has reduced somewhat.

The grooviest benefit to anyone losing weight is that you are decreasing the risk of an early death from a heart attack, heart disease or a stroke. And you thought it really was all about getting back into that old pair of jeans. My advice is if you haven’t yet made that commitment to yourself to find a healthier you, then stop fiddling about and get started on a lose weight program. You’ve got nothing to lose (pardon the pun) except the weight.

A Lose Weight Program Clinical Trial

September 5th, 2008 by admin

A very interesting study was just done just recently comparing 4 popular lose weight programs. The Slim.Fast Plan, Weight Watchers Pure Points Programe, Dr Atkins’ New Diet Revolution, and Rosemary Conley’s “Eat Yourself Slim” Diet & Fitness Plan were the four tested. Now this was all done properly by Dr Helen Truby of Children’s Nutrition Research Centre, at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Queensland, Australia, and colleagues from universities in the UK, Northern Ireland and Australia. Almost 300 adults were involved in the trial which went for 2 months and at the end of it all there was no significant difference between the weight loss for each plan. The good news is that each diet was considered nutritionaly adequate. Meaning they are safe diets, but if anyone has a specific nutrient imbalances they should consult their doctor about it, before doing one of these lose weight programs. I personally find it a little annoying that not one of these plans stood out as better than the other. That would have made choosing a non-clinical program a lot easier for some people.
